Welcome to the Dangar Marine Forum!

Hey there, DangarStu here.

For years the Dangar Marine community has been spread across YouTube comments, emails and the odd message on Patreon. Lots of you have years of experience with boats and motors I’ve never worked on, and until now there’s been nowhere for you to share it. This forum is that place: boat owners helping boat owners, showing off what they’re working on, and suggesting what I should make next.

What’s here

  • Ask the community: stuck on a repair? Put it to the whole Dangar Marine community. Questions here aren’t addressed to me; they go to everyone, from weekend tinkerers to working marine mechanics, and someone has very likely fixed the same thing before. When a reply solves your problem, mark it as the Solution, so the next person finds the answer straight away. And if you know the answer to someone else’s question, jump in. That’s what makes this work.
  • Suggested topics: ideas for videos or guide pages. Vote for the ones you’d like most, and I’ll use the votes to decide what to make next.
  • Projects and builds: restorations, repowers, builds and upgrades. Photos and progress updates are very welcome.
  • Channel and guide: news, livestream announcements, and feedback on the forum and the boat guide.

Asking a good question

The community can only help with what you tell them, so include:

  1. The boat and motor: make, model, horsepower and year if you know it (the Yamaha year codes can help).
  2. What it’s doing: when it happens, any noises, smells or warnings.
  3. What you’ve already tried.
  4. Photos or a short video, if you can.

Before you post, try asking the guide. Type your question into the Search tab and press Ask: it looks through every video I’ve made, writes you a short answer with Claude, an AI, and links to the moments in the videos it comes from. It only answers from what’s in the videos and the guide, so if I haven’t covered your problem, it’ll say so and offer a link to ask here instead, with your question already filled in.

A few ground rules

  • Be kind, especially to beginners. We all started somewhere, and no question is too basic here.
  • Stay safe. Fuel, batteries and electrics can hurt you. If you’re not sure, ask before you try it.
  • No selling or advertising. Recommending a part or supplier that helped you is fine, but this isn’t a marketplace.

I’ll be reading along and joining in when I can, but the real knowledge here is in the community. Between all of us, there’s not much on a boat that someone hasn’t fixed before.

Thanks for being part of Dangar Marine, and I’ll see you on the forum.
